How to Raise Your Self-Esteem

There are many different ways to gain more confidence and raise your self-esteem! Everybody has their flaws. Instead of dwelling on them and being too harsh on yourself, we can acknowledge them and learn to improve, little by little. If they can't be changed, learn to embrace them! Remember - you are enough.

1. Identify the positive about yourself

It's a good idea to write down all the positive things about yourself. When you are feeling down, you can try reading some of the things you previously wrote about yourself.

2. Find the root cause of my low self-esteem.

Think positive. Your thoughts can affect you in more ways than you think. If you start to focus only on your flaws, then your flaws will begin to consume you, which can lower your confidence. Be kinder to yourself. Don't spend too much time thinking about your flaws. Just think of them as points on which you can improve!

Try a bit of self-reflection. If you feel like you are unhappy because you compare yourself to others, remember that the world is a big place filled with all kinds of people. Everyone is different and unique in their own ways.

3. Reduce negativity towards yourself.

Overcome your insecurities. If you have little confidence in your looks, take more time to figure out how to feel more comfortable with your body and self. Of course, it goes without saying that confidence is more important than your physical appearance.

4. Improve your physical health.

It's relatively easier to feel good about ourselves when we are healthy. Exercising (or doing some sort of physical activity) has been shown to reduce long-term symptoms of depression and anxiety, as well as boost one's self-confidence.

5. Build positive relationships

Surround yourself with good friends who act as a positive influence and don't make you feel badly about yourself. Friends can help you work towards your health (both mental and physical) goals, which can help raise your self-esteem.

6. Don’t be too hard on yourself

Make sure to give yourself a break every now and then. You don’t have to be perfect every waking hour of every day. Take some time off to relax! We all have our bad days, and it's totally okay to just take a step back, cool off, recharge, and try again the next day.

7. Learn how to say no

A lot of people with low self-esteem find it harder to say no. This might lead to some stressful situations, where you find yourself being overworked by tasks you could have refused! Remember to say no and to take care of yourself!
